For more than 100 years AT&T was known as a world-class network delivering unprecedented reliability, says Hossein Eslambolchi, CTO and CIO of AT&T and president of AT&T Global Networking Technology Services. But that was the 20th century. The perennial question in high tech is, What have you done for me lately? Eslambolchi believes he has the answer. Under his guidance, AT&T introduced its flagship security service offering, Internet Protect, in March 2004. Part of AT&T’s Concept of One — do it right, do it once — Internet Protect detects worms, viruses, and phishing attacks weeks before they proliferate. After these are identified, the service uses “cloaking,” a separate system that prevents attacks before they touch the network. “We are going to revolutionize the industry around security that is not reactive but predictive and preventative. This is the technical vision of the 21st century,” he says.
