As expected, Palm announced its pricing for the new Pre smartphone at $199 with two-year Sprint contract and $100 rebate, effectively matching Apple's iPhone price on AT&T. The new phone will be shipping June 6, just ahead of Apple's WWDC conference.

That should ensure that no matter what gets announced at WWDC, the Palm Pre will inevitably get some additional press coverage. That may drive the folks at Apple crazy, but it's a smart move on Palm's part.
