Will EMC's information gamble work?
In June 2006, EMC announced that it would acquire RSA Security for $2.1 billion, only to be met with a healthy dose of analyst skepticism and a 3 percent drop in its stock price. Many on Wall Street considered the price tag too high in light of RSA’s 2005 revenues of $310 million. Moreover, industry observers were disquieted by EMC’s unrelenting buying spree: RSA was merely the most expensive purchase out of a whopping 23 acquisitions it had made since early 2003, which have crossed the spectrum from systems management to content management to BPO.

Toshiba develops HD DVD writer drive
On Tuesday Toshiba will unveil the first slim-type HD DVD writer drive suitable for use in laptop computers. The SD-L902A drive is the standard 12.7-millimeters high, which means it can fit in the drive bay of most laptop computers. It can read and write HD DVD, DVD, and CD discs, Toshiba said Monday.

Archos Inc.'s new 104 entry-level MP3 player, which ships with a 4G-byte hard drive, is the company's smallest portable media player yet. Hard drives consistently need upgrades, made easy by Apricorn Inc.'s EZ Upgrade Serial ATA, a kit that effortlessly transfers data from one Serial ATA notebook hard drive to another. Outside of storage, look for D&M Holdings Inc.'s ReplayTV PC Edition software, which turns PCs into DVRs (digital video recorders).
