Yahoo ousts half its board

As part of an ongoing effort to recover from a downward spiral, Yahoo said on Tuesday that four board members, including its chairman, will step down.

Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang left the board earlier this month. With the additional departures announced today -- including that of chairman Roy Bostock -- more than half of the board's membership will be fresh blood.

Microsoft has updated its Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, posting a service pack with a number of new features and bug fixes, the company announced Monday.

The new features in Microsoft Exchange Service Pack 2 were developed based on customer feedback, according to the company. They reflect the expanding use of enterprise e-mail, scheduling and associated functions across a wider range of devices and deployment scenarios.

Startup Agari debuts today with cloud-based email security services aimed at allowing enterprises and e-commerce companies to identify and block fake and spoofed email exploiting their legitimate business domain names to conduct scams and phishing attacks.

Facebook and YouSendIt are among the early adopters of the Agari technology, according to Patrick Peterson, founder and CEO of the company, which is based in Palo Alto.

Microsoft: Office 365 a hit, especially with small businesses

Office 365, Microsoft's cloud collaboration and communication suite for organizations, is selling eight times faster than its predecessor, the Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS) and has been particularly successful among small businesses, which make up over 90 percent of its customer base, the company announced on Tuesday.

"We're seeing tremendous upside on the small business side," said Takeshi Numoto, corporate vice president of the Microsoft Office Division, in an interview.

Google to discontinue Gmail app for BlackBerry

Google, which last week bungled the launch of a Gmail application for Apple iOS devices, has decided to put out to pasture its Gmail application for the BlackBerry.

As of Nov. 22, Google will no longer offer technical support to users of the application, nor will it allow people to download it anymore, the company said in a blog post.

Google Apps scores another government win

As many as 5,000 workers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory will be the latest government workers to start using Google Apps.

On Tuesday, Unisys plans to announce that it has won a contract to move the employees to Google Apps for Government, a suite of services that includes Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Sites.

Nokia sells messaging unit to Synchronica
