ActiveGrid powers up enterprise LAMP
Open source startup ActiveGrid last week released the first finalized editions of its ActiveGrid Application Builder and LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and Perl/PHP/Python) Application Server. The company said its software brings enterprise features to the increasingly popular LAMP stack. Application Builder, a RAD (rapid application development) environment with scripting languages and graphical editors, is geared to enable integration of interfaces with back ends and applications, and it employs XML standards such as XML Schema, BPEL (Business Process Execution Language), XForms, XPaths, and WSDL. The LAMP Application Server provides session management, Web services interoperability and transaction management.

ScanSoft refreshes document conversion wares
ScanSoft this week launched OmniPage Professional 15, a new version of its software for converting, editing, archiving, and sharing paper and PDF documents. According to the company, OmniPage simplifies document workflow and reduces the need to manually re-create documents. New to this version are a 25 percent accuracy improvement and features such as PDF batch creation, automatic forms conversion, premade scanning workflows, and integration with Google Desktop Search.

ViewCentral boosts apps
ViewCentral last week took the wraps off its ViewCentral 5.0 on-demand tools for managing events and measuring their effectiveness. The software was created to automate parts of in-person, virtual live, and virtual recorded marketing and training events. ViewCentral 5.0 adds event packaging and pricing features to help companies attract more customers to events through easier registration and multiple pricing models.

Sterling composes retail apps
Sterling Commerce last week announced the Customer Order Management and Network Warehouse Management solutions. The "packaged composite applications" were built for retail enterprises and are designed to ease the complexity of multichannel order management and distribution environments. To that end, Customer Order Management enables users to capture, manage, and coordinate order fulfillment, while Network Warehouse Management helps manufacturers more efficiently sell and distribute.
