In Brief: BitTorrent inks deals to embed software in products

BitTorrent has reached agreements with several companies to embed its file-sharing software in their Internet devices, expanding its ability to reach users.

Some of the first contract electronics hardware makers to start embedding BitTorrent software into their devices include Asustek Computer, one of the world's biggest contract manufacturers, as well as Planex Communication and QNAP Systems. The three companies will put BitTorrent download manager into their digital home devices, giving users immediate access to speedy downloads using BitTorrent, particularly downloads geared toward entertainment, such as movies and songs.

For users, the benefit will be the ability to connect to the Internet and download files without a PC. Some of the products BitTorrent software will be embedded into include wireless routers, media servers and network attached storage (NAS) devices.
