AMD bumps clock speed on two-way Opteron

Opteron 246 runs at 2.0GHz

As expected, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) released the Opteron 246 Tuesday, increasing the performance of its processors for two-way servers and workstations.

Price cuts and benchmark data revealed last week had pointed to an upcoming Opteron 246 launch. That data also suggested that AMD is planning to release the Opteron 146 and Opteron 846 fairly soon.

The Opteron 246 runs at 2.0GHz, and comes with 1MB of Level 2 cache. It is available immediately, and costs $794 in quantities of 1,000 units.
