Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has tapped a former IBM Corp. executive to take charge of its silicon design efforts, the company said Wednesday.
AMD appointed Jeff VerHeul, a 25-year veteran of IBM, as corporate vice president of silicon design. He will be responsible for all of the company's future computing products, the company said. VerHeul will work closely with Dirk Meyer, the president and chief operating officer of AMD's Microprocessor Solutions Sector group.
Prior to joining AMD, VerHeul was responsible for IBM's Engineering and Technology Services (ETS) organization. ETS is a design and consulting business that lets companies tap into IBM's closet of technologies and patents.
