SNES beat-em up joins 9 other games in Wii/DSi shops today

I thought I was pretty knowledgeable about the beat-em ups of the SNES, but apparently there's this "The Combatribes" that I--hand to god--have never seen anywhere in my gaming life, from scouring shelves at rental stores as a child to stocking sales drawers at Funcoland as a teen.

Something about the beat-em up genre during the SNES' heyday made the genre alluring to me during that brief period. While games like Double Dragon and Renegade were fun on the NES, they looked far inferior to their arcade counterparts. Games like Turtles in Time, Final Fight, Batman Returns managed to nail both the look and feel. Heck, I even enjoyed Rival Turf, which is a testament to my affinity for the genre. But this game, The Combatribes, is a complete and utter mystery to me.

While I've enjoyed a handful of brawlers since, like Rockstar's version of The Warriors on the PS2 and Castle Crashers on Xbox 360, I still can't tear myself away from a 2D, old-school beat-em up, wrinkles and all. The Combatribes joins nine other games on the Wii and DSi's downloadable stores, including the fourth chapter of Tales of Monkey Island and a Christmas-themed puzzle game for WiiWare, a photo-recognition game for the DSi, and the original arcade version of Solomon's Key (which has previously seen an NES virtual console release). You can find all of the information about this week's games in the press release below.
