Office exec out, Sun sales exec in at Microsoft
VP who oversaw Office launch leaves his post after just a year
Follow @infoworldMicrosoft Corp. has lost a senior executive from its Office products group, but has gained a software sales professional who moved from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Joe Eschbach was corporate vice president of the Information Worker Product Management Group at Microsoft. He joined the Redmond, Washington, company only a year ago from Adobe Systems Inc. and is credited by the software vendor for overseeing the launch of Office 2003 last month.
Eschbach will be replaced by Chris Capossela, a 12-year Microsoft veteran who will be promoted to corporate vice president from his job as general manager for Project, a Microsoft spokeswoman said. Eschbach will leave his post on Dec. 1, and Caposella will take over then, she said.
While Eschbach is out, Barbara Gordon is in. The former vice president of global sales at Sun recently joined Microsoft. Her move was mentioned earlier this month in a note for investors by analysts at Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. A Sun spokesman confirmed Gordon's departure. Microsoft declined to comment on Gordon's employment, while Gordon herself did not answer a call seeking comment.
