Interwoven on Wednesday unveiled prepackaged intranet and extranet offerings designed to help enterprises quickly build and populate targeted Web sites.
The Interwoven Salesforce Productivity Intranet and Channel Extranet offerings include packaged templates, components, best practices, and pre-built Web sites intended to help business users create and launch sites for sales and channel initiatives.
The offerings are based on the company's LiveSite Content Publishing technology, announced in January, which provides a drag-and-drop environment for assembling reusable components to build and publish Web sites. LiveSite provides a foundation for managing libraries of pre-built components and templates, according to Kevin Cochrane, vice president of product management at Interwoven.
"These are single-package offerings [that] include documentation, services, and training for getting up quickly with a best-practice Web site," Cochrane said.
Included in the bundles are a library of 20 components such as authentication and polling components; site templates; an out-of-the-box metadata model for tagging content for targeted delivery; content entry forms for creating structured content; deployment configurations; and pre-built workflows for content approval.
The prepackaged toolsets are aimed at enterprises and at departments within enterprises that are attempting to consolidate Web initiatives or are looking to roll out specific applications for their business, according to Cochrane
"We think of a solution as a targeted application: pre-built, tested, installs cleanly. A complete end-to-end application for specific business initiatives," Cochrane said.
Although the Salesforce Productivity Intranet and Channel Extranet offerings are prepackaged, they are exceptionally customizable, Cochrane said.
For example, business users can customize all pre-built templates and components for look and feel, what content is exposed, and what functions are available, Cochrane said.
"The danger of packaged applications is one size fits all, but the customer needs to differentiate. We are pre-building everything they'll need, but if they want to remove functionality [or] rebuild the page, they can," Cochrane said.
