Archiving data is not technically complex -- it’s a simple matter of keeping extra copies of important data. As data grows, so do the number of regulations and the penalties for noncompliance, placing archiving near the top of IT priorities. The changing nature of regulations and the accelerated pace of change in storage technology, from tape drives to ILM systems, indicates that an archiving strategy needs to be crafted carefully -- and revisited again and again. Many new solutions will emerge in the next decade, but there’s no substitute for a well-conceived framework that enables you to adapt over time.
