Konami to release Rock Revolution this October

Unveiled at the Konami Gamer's Night on Wednesday, Rock Revolution was confirmed for release on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and DS. The rhythm game will feature 40 cover songs on the disc (sorry purists, no master tracks here), promises "the most realistic drum peripheral on the market," and support both bass and guitar in addition to drums but exclude vocals.

Interesting, Wii and DS versions will seemingly be stripped down and/or optimized for their respective strengths. Online multiplayer will not be supported on either, but the Wii version supports air drumming and air guitar like Disney's forthcoming Ultimate Band, and the DS version will support vocals.

"Rock Revolution will be the most innovative and realistic rock game to hit the market, that will provide a quality drum peripheral and music that players will appreciate," said Anthony Crouts, VP of marketing at Konami. "As the originator of music-based games, we are dedicated to bringing fans a truly preeminent music experience."

The announcement comes as Activision's Guitar Hero and MTV's Rock Band battle it out in the massively lucrative "rhythm wars." On Tuesday it was revealed that Guitar Hero IV will support drums, vocals, and create-a-song mode in addition to guitar and bass in an effort to stay competitive.

Rock Revolution will be available for purchase on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and DS this October for an undisclosed cover charge.
