Speaking at a crowded Konami game showcase Wednesday night, game design legend Hideo Kojima confirmed once and for all that Metal Gear Solid 4 would be the "final episode" for longtime protagonist Solid Snake.
Kojima seemed to breathe a sigh of relief now that the game is finished. "Designing [Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online] was quite a task, and I'm relieved for the moment," he said to the crowd. Kojima went on to say that MGS4 represented the "grand finale" for the 20-year old series, as well as the "final episode of the Solid Snake saga" and "Snake's final mission."
Of course, obsessive types are likely to pick up on a few subtleties in the language there, but we're thinking that Kojima wouldn't want it any other way. Perhaps tellingly, Kojima recited the speech in English.
Kojima appeared to be most proud that MGS4 will be the first Metal Gear game to enjoy a simultaneous worldwide launch in the U.S., Japan, and Europe. "I hope your time with Solid Snake has been precious," he said.
