As E3 2008 nears and Nintendo keeps its poker face, two new reports surfaced this week suggesting (and near confirming) that Kid Icarus will soon be making a return to Wii, more than 21 years since the platforming games first appeared NES.
"Of course [Nintendo is] going to have some E3 surprises," reported IGN's Matt Casamassina, on a podcast dated April 28. "You know, Kid Icarus... Kid Icarus is coming for crying out loud."
Casamassina went on to say that the "developer will make a really pretty game." Said developer is rumored to be Factor 5, the same developer behind Lair on PS3 and the Star Wars Rogue Squadron series for GameCube. It is the second formal statement made by Casamassina implying that a Kid Icarus game is in the works.
Further adding fuel to the fire, is the above purported concept art obtained by Kombo on Thursday, allegedly used by Factor 5 to pitch the enhanced remake to Nintendo. Kombo said it is unclear whether Nintendo approved the project, however.
Kid Icarus, released for the NES in 1987, is widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. It blends gameplay elements from three of Nintendo's biggest franchises: Zelda, Mario, and Metroid and was named one of GamePro's top 10 games deserving of a remake last year.
