The pool of contributors to the Linux kernel is increasingly widening, with the Linux development community doubling over the past three years alone, according to the Linux Foundation. Corporate interest in furthering the Linux kernel has also risen steadily, topping out at over 300 known companies committing changes to version 3.0.
