Mastering Virtualization from the Datacenter to the Desktop
September 24-25, 2007 at the Roosevelt Hotel, New York City
Virtualization technologies are bringing an increasing number of companies immediate and steady gains. They're irresistible, but also disruptive. September's event will tackle the following questions:
- What are the software licensing implications?
- What are the technical requirements?
- Can you manage these technologies within existing frameworks, and can they be integrated with existing systems?
- What skills do you need to tame them?
- How will virtualization impact existing IT processes?
Today's virtualization technologies allow IT groups to match computing resources to business needs more efficiently than ever before. Server virtualization is taking the datacenter by storm, helping companies dramatically reduce operational costs ($25,000 to $35,000 per virtualized server per year, by IDC estimates) by consolidating multiple operating systems and application stacks on shared hardware. Virtualization technologies have sparked quieter revolutions in storage, but their importance for SAN and NAS management is no less profound.
Virtualization is even remaking the business desktop. As enterprises contemplate the significant hardware refresh required by Microsoft Vista, some shops are turning to a new model: hosting virtualized desktops on server farms and delivering them to users over the network. Throw in application virtualization - a technology that isolates applications from the operating system, eliminates application conflicts, and allows applications to be delivered on demand - and the benefits to both administrators and end users only increase.
Highlights of our two-day event:
- Keynote Presentations: Industry analysts and IT experts outline innovative uses of virtualization and important technology trends
- Technical Track: Expert panelists and the audience address challenges of implementing server virtualization, from hardware requirements and physical to virtual migration, to monitoring and scaling the virtualized infrastructure, and leveraging virtualization for business continuity and disaster recovery
- Case Studies Track: IT end users share experiences with Server, Storage, File, Desktop and Application virtualization, followed by moderated Q&A sessions with presenters and audience
- Expert Panel Discussions: Topics will include virtual server security, open source virtualization, and the energy savings achievable through server virtualization and desktop virtualization, as well as through more efficient approaches to datacenter power and cooling
