Industry Keynote:
Beyond Consolidation: Visualizing Our Virtual Future
Among the new technologies sweeping the marketplace, virtualization is generating huge excitement in boardrooms and datacenters alike, as CEOs and technologists grasp the promise of this game-changing new technology. Join Credit Suisse's David Reilly for an insightful look at our virtual future, as he envisions how virtualization will reshape companies, business processes, and technology infrastructures over the next several years. David will also share how Credit Suisse is placing its bets on this innovative technology to outmaneuver the competition as it greens its data centers, builds powerful capabilities, and empowers its clients and employees with a best-in-class user experience. Hear what results Credit Suisse has already achieved with its early investment and how it is weaving virtualization into its corporate DNA to ensure continued competitive advantage.

Analyst Keynote:
Virtualization & IT Management Processes: A Progress Report
In the past year, adoption rates for virtualization solutions have skyrocketed, new technologies have come to the fore, and new solutions (and vendors) are appearing almost daily. This explosion has solved some existing IT management challenges, but it has also exacerbated others, and even brought into light many new concerns. This session with the recognized independent virtualization expert Andi Mann will discuss the changes in virtualization and IT management that have occurred over the past 12 to 18 months, present a perspective on the current state of the virtualization space, and provide actionable advice to help you understand and overcome the many challenges in managing a virtual IT environment.

Keynote:
Server Virtualization: The New Data Center Operating System
Sponsored by Cornerstone Sponsor Virtual Iron
As server virtualization moves beyond simple server consolidation, it is creating more flexible and dynamic operating environments for deploying and managing software applications. This session will look at the emergence of server virtualization as the new data center operating system and how this is impacting the entire data center ecosystem.

Breakout Session:
Vendor Roundtable: Virtualization Management Today and Tomorrow
A coherent picture of managing virtual machines in the context of the entire datacenter infrastructure has yet to emerge. As virtual server environments become larger, more pervasive, and even heterogeneous, the current state of the art -- in which each virtualization platform is managed in isolation using the virtualization vendor's own tools -- must give way to standardized management solutions that work across platforms. This session will examine the role of standards for virtual machine management, the progress of those standards, and the progress third-party systems management vendors are making toward integrating VM management into their wares.
- Moderated by Tom Yager, Test Center Chief Technologist, InfoWorld
- Panelist: Nasser Ansari, Principal Product Manager, CA
- Panelist: Rebecca Austen, Director, System Software, IBM
- Panelist: Tom Bishop, CTO, BMC Software
- Panelist: Nick van der Zweep, Director of Virtualization & Product Management, Hewlett-Packard Company

Technical Track:
Server Virtualization Planning & Deployment Many choices confront those who would implement server virtualization, from the selection of the virtualization platform itself to the hardware configuration underneath to the workloads running on top, not to mention networking and storage considerations. This session will address all of these preparatory steps, as well as the process and tools for making the move and the factors that lead to P2V success or failure.
- Moderated by Paul Venezia, Sr. Contributing Editor, InfoWorld
- Panelist: Chris Barclay, Director of Product Management, Virtual Iron Software
- Panelist: Vincent Biddlecombe, CTO, Transplace
- Panelist: Adam Gray, CTO, Novacoast, Inc.
- Panelist: Matt Prigge, Network Architect, SymQuest Group
- Panelist: Dr. Gregory O. Smith, Director, Dynamic Services, T-Systems North America

Breakout Session:
Lean & Green: Guide to a More Cost-Effective, Energy-Efficient Datacenter
There are a growing number of new, expensive technologies for greener datacenters, but the straightest path to achieving your green objectives may involve one of the most fundamental of your development tasks: proper datacenter planning and design, and effective ongoing datacenter operations. In this session, Jim Smith of Digital Realty Trust will explain basic technical and engineering considerations that, if addressed correctly, will allow your datacenter to operate at its maximum efficiency thereby reducing both your costs and any negative environmental impact.

Enterprise Server Virtualization for Everyone: User Case Studies
The benefits of server virtualization are undeniable, but to date, deployment of the technology beyond simple server consolidation has been limited mostly to large enterprises with deep IT budgets and resources. This session highlights two small/medium-sized organizations that are leveraging affordable, enterprise-class server virtualization to address advanced use cases including development and test optimization, high availability and disaster recovery, and capacity management. The speakers - one the IT executive for a small professional services firm; the other an IT executive at a mid-sized technology firm serving the higher education market - will discuss their IT environments, their specific drivers for deploying server virtualization, their implementation processes and the results their organizations have realized to date.

Case Study Track:
Desktop and Application Virtualization: Matching Technology Options & Business Needs
Whether in the form of server-hosted workspaces, traditional thin client, or virtual machines running on end user systems, desktop virtualization eases system administration and gives IT greater control over applications and data. This session will examine the advantages and limitations of the various approaches to desktop virtualization, and will provide general guidance for implementing these technologies as well as lessons learned.

Technical Track:
Server Virtualization Management & Scalability
While systems management vendors work to strengthen their support for virtual servers, administration tools and processes for virtual servers remain largely from those for physical systems. This session will address the challenges of managing virtual machines today, getting the most from platform-specific management tools such as VMware VirtualCenter, managing storage and networking, VM backups and disaster recovery, and scaling virtual server environments.

Storage Virtualization: Toward a More Dynamic & Efficient Storage Infrastructure
AOL has deployed virtualization devices in its SAN infrastructure to improve the management of storage and to ease data migrations. The result has been significantly reduced operator workload during provisioning and data migrations, and easier data mobility between storage tiers. In this presentation, AOL Operations Architect Dan Pollack will cover the storage virtualization solutions AOL evaluated, the evaluation process, the solution chosen, deployment experiences, and operational characteristics. He'll also discuss potential futures opened up by virtualized block storage.
