If HP's board fires Léo Apotheker as rumored, one of the following candidates may turn out to be the new CEO
According to news reports, Meg Whitman -- now a member of HP's board -- is under consideration to lead HP if Léo Apotheker is fired, at least as temporary CEO.
Pros: She is well-connected in the tech industry and has a following in the investment community. She has lots of money, so she could be a cheap hire. She showed a take-no-prisoners approach in her failed run for California governor.
Cons: Her performance as eBay's chief was not great, and her early success there looks more and more to be a consequence of the dot-com boom, where all tech companies did well, rather than to her leadership. She's considered brusque, likes pricey executive perks, and showed a mean side in her failed run for California governor.
