Security appliance maker SonicWall Inc. has acquired data backup technology maker Lasso Logic Inc. and the assets of remote access developer EnKoo Inc., the company said Monday. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
SonicWall plans to use its new technologies to expand its offerings for small and medium businesses. Channel resellers are seeing demand for low-cost, simple products that smaller companies can use for data protection, backup and remote access needs, the company said.
Several of SonicWall's partners already sell products from San Francisco-based Lasso, a fledgling company that launched last year. Lasso's flagship product, Lasso CDP (Continuous Data Protection), is a disk-based backup system intended for organizations with up to 100 employees.
EnKoo makes remote access appliances. SonicWall, with headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, plans to incorporate EnKoo's technology into its own SSL-VPN 2000 remote-access product. The move brings to SonicWall key features like Citrix support, one-time passwords, remote control functionality for client systems and additional HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) rewrite capabilities.
Security and storage vendors are routinely mating as companies look to fill in their product lines. Earlier this year, security company Symantec Corp. swallowed storage maker Veritas Software Corp. in a stock deal initially valued at US$13.5 billion.
