LANDesk adds security component

LANDesk Software has introduced the LANDesk Security Suite that integrates device-level security features into the company's systems management software.

LANDesk Security Suite is designed to help both corporate management and IT staff achieve higher efficiency by providing tools that solve their top security concerns such as spyware, malware, worms, unauthorized access, and vulnerabilities, said Steve Workman, director of product management at LANDesk. "Instead of having to deploy single point solutions, we're giving IT departments an integrated way to manage security," he said.

Earlier this year LANDesk announced its intentions to build increased security functionality into its solutions and product line. LANDesk products provide asset management, patch management, software installation, operating system migration, and software license management to IT organizations.

One LANDesk user believes the new product will be a big help to his already overworked staff. “Chicago Tribune has more than 3,700 devices such as desktop computers that need to be managed and effectively secured," said Sudhaman Gopalan, LAN/security administrator at Chicago Tribune. "Previously, that meant using a variety of disjointed products and services, but with LANDesk Security Suite, we expect the single-console interface and multi-function software to reduce exposure to spyware and viruses while increasing uptime and IT efficiency," he said.

LANDesk Security Suite should be available by the end of the year. Pricing will be announced at the time of availability.
