Chinese companies join Cisco-led security program

Chinese antivirus software vendors join Cisco's NAC security program

Two Chinese antivirus software vendors, Kingsoft and Rising Technology, have joined Cisco Systems' Network Admission Control (NAC) security program, the San Jose, California, network equipment vendor said Tuesday.

The NAC program was established in 2003 as a way for Cisco to share technology features in its products with software vendors. The goal of the NAC program is to ensure that the network and all of the devices that access the network are NAC-compatible, while non-compatible devices are not given access to the network.

Currently, four vendors are shipping NAC-compatible applications -- McAfee, IBM, Trend Micro, and Symantec -- and more than 20 other companies are developing NAC-compatible products, according to information posted on Cisco's Web site.

Kingsoft and Rising are the first two Chinese companies to join the NAC program, Cisco said. By joining the NAC program, the two companies have agreed to add support for NAC to their antivirus products.

Rising will create a module that will extend NAC-compatibility to all of its enterprise antivirus products, including Rising Antivirus Software Network Edition, Cisco said. Kingsoft will also make its enterprise antivirus products compatible with NAC and make available a service kit that allows its existing antivirus customers to access networks that use NAC, it said.

Cisco did not offer a timeframe for when Kingsoft and Rising would make their NAC-compatible products available.
