Surprise new smartphone from Palm on AT&T
Rumors indicate that Palm has a second smartphone in the works called the Eos
Follow @infoworldA few weeks back I happened to meet some folks over at Palm and I wondered out loud whether the company had any additional surprises up its sleeve at it prepares to launch the highly anticipated Palm Pre smartphone. I couldn't even get a hint of a clue.

But according to a story that broke in Engadget over the weekend, it seems that there is a second smartphone planned from Palm called the Eos, also code-named "Castle." It looks like this is intended as a "little brother" to the Palm Pre, presumably running the same applications and WebOS operating system, but in a candy-bar shape with full keyboard rather than the sliding keyboard of the Pre. Best of all, it's on AT&T with quad-band GSM, UMTS, HSDPA, and GPRS support.
For those who travel a lot internationally, this sounds like a great phone -- chock-full of WebOS goodness, but in a smaller, thinner form factor. It includes all the usual support for e-mail, MP3, and video playback, along with a 2-megapixel camera, 4GB of storage, and a replaceable battery.
The Eos has not been confirmed by AT&T or Palm, but the rumors expect it in the second half of 2009. For a company that was pretty much constipated when it came to getting new products out the door, this is great work.
