InfoWorld published its 2008 geek gadget gift guide, and I've got one gift gadget to add that would be the gift gadget to rule them all. OK, maybe not rule them all, but you could use it to carry them all.
ScottEVest has a range of very functional -- and cool-looking -- jackets and vests. If you've ever found yourself struggling to stow your PDA, phone, camera, magazines, books, passport, tickets, wallet, and sunglasses when trying to board a flight, ScotteVest has a range of solutions.
The company began with the original travel vest with 20 pockets. Best of all, the pockets are designed so that things don't bulge or bunch up at the bottom. You can carry a lot of gear and not look like a total geek. And when you need to go through security, just take off the vest with all the gear stashed away in the pockets. It's like getting an extra carry on. No joke. I think you could store a netbook and a couple of hard drives without any difficulty.
The company has since expanded there wares to include items like the Evolution Jacket that has 25 (!) pockets. It's well designed, though I did find a snap button on the back to be a bit uncomfortable. CEO Scott Jordan says it doesn't bother him and so maybe I'm just finicky. They also have a new Fleece 5.0 jacket that's getting great reviews, as well as hoodies, cargo pants, running shirts, and more.
These are well-made garments with high-end designs, so they're not necessarily cheap. The Travel vest clocks in at $100, the Evolution jacket at $150. But even if you're on a budget, you can find functional clothing for $30 or less. They also have a reasonably flexible "satisfaction guarantee." And if they're good enough for Woz, well, they're pretty good!
