Bossie 2010 winner: JRuby
Although Ruby has become one of the standard scripting languages in software development, it still has not gained a strong foothold in large businesses and enterprises. This lack of business adoption is in part due to the fact that Ruby uses its own VM, a requirement that gives pause to managers and support staff who would prefer to use runtime frameworks they already know. Enter JRuby, which delivers the full Ruby language on the Java platform (JVM). Not only does JRuby make Ruby more palatable in the data center, it also enables Ruby to use Java's sweeping range of libraries.
