Vodafone, Google team on mobile search
Google's search engine will be added to the Vodafone live! service
Follow @infoworldMobile operator Vodafone Group has teamed up with Google to offer a mobile search service to its Vodafone live! subscribers, the company said Tuesday.
Under terms of the agreement, Vodafone will offer Google's search technology to allow subscribers to search for information and services on Vodafone live! and on the Internet, the company said. Examples of the kind of information that will be available include news, weather, and details of restaurants, it said.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The companies did not say when Google's search engine would be added to the Vodafone live! service.
Google's deal with Vodafone is not the company's first push into the mobile search market. In January, Google announced a deal with handset vendor Motorola to put a button with a Google icon on some handset models that will enable users to connect wirelessly to Google's search engine. Those handsets are expected to be available during the first quarter of 2006.
