Mobile main screens
The Apple iPhone (left) starts you with immediate access to your apps on its home screen, while the Motorola Droid's home screen (right) is initially blank except for an awkward analog clock, though you can remove the clock and add apps to the home screen as shown here. Both have multipage home screens you can flick through. The iPhone keeps four apps of your choice persistently available at the bottom of all home screens, but the Droid does not.
The iPhone shows any alerts, such as unread messages, with the application's icon, while the Droid displays alert icons at the top of the screen in a notification area. The iPhone can show how many unread messages or app updates you have, while the Droid only shows that you have some. The Droid does let you pull down a notification window (see upper right) to get quick access to whatever is being alerted.
