WiredRed rolls out e/pop Web Conferencing

Browser-based offering provides multi-point audio and synchronous video conferencing

WiredRed Software on Monday shipped its e/pop Web Conferencing Server, which combines multi-point audio and synchronous video conferencing with desktop and application sharing.

The server leverages WiredRed's Real Time Routing Architecture, a secure two-way communications platform that can be used to build custom applications.

The easy-to-deploy product is designed as a more reliable and less costly alternative to Web conferencing services, according to WiredRed's Founder and CEO Allen Drennan.

"There is a heavy [dissatisfaction] with [Web conferencing] services because of the usage model. How do you contain the cost? Right now services are successful because the best offerings happen to be services," he said.

WiredRed's out-of-the box Web conferencing software enables dynamic presentation-sharing, which eliminates the need for pre-session PowerPoint uploads, and enables multiple presenters and participants to also share desktops and applications, according to WiredRed officials. In addition, conference attendees can share and transfer files in real-time.

The e/pop Web Conferencing Server supports both proprietary and industry standard audio and video codecs including GSM, MPEG4, and H263.

It features a customizable end-user interface with dockable tabs and dialogs to suit individual viewing preferences when sharing documents and multi-point video.

Several months down the road, WiredRed plans to merge the Web conferencing offering with its real-time communications software for IM and presence awareness, Drennan said.
