Serena linking requirements, change management

Serena's Dimensions RM 10.1.4 requirements management software can link to test and change management platforms

Serena Software is introducing this week Serena Dimensions RM 10.1.4, a version of its requirements management software for application development that can link to test and change management platforms.

Dimensions RM enables development teams to gather requirements at the beginning of planning, track integration into products and manage requirements.

With Web services integration, version 10.1.4 can integrate with products such as Dimensions CM, for change management information, and HP Quality Center, for testing, said Nathan Rawlins, Serena product marketing director.

User organizations thus get full traceability, he said. Beyond making sure code works, developers can ascertain that it meets business requirements. "It's a trend that we're seeing in the industry called requirements-based testing," Rawlins said. Web services integration with Dimensions CM also avoids data redundancy, Serena said.

Other features in version 10.1.4 include requirements templates with improved re-use capabilities; publishing templates that use custom layouts and improved handling for category management.

Also featured is guidance and process support when defining requirements and a data masking tool enabling Serena Support to investigate issues while protecting data privacy. Users also can access requirements via a URL.

Dimensions 10.1.4 costs $2,000 per engineer.

Rawlins also said Serena has had almost 7,000 downloads of its free Prototype Composer tool, for visually prototyping an application, since November.
