I always get a big kick out of Randall Kennedy's conspiracy theories. His latest, "Linux slips into Microsoft's warm, deadly embrace," is no exception.
Let's get real. Yes, Microsoft in the past had a strategy of "embrace and extend" to make Windows a "great" platform for using the Internet. It's no secret. In fact, it was a fairly successful strategy for keeping Windows relevant as the Internet, and particularly the Web, became more important.

Hyper-V is one of the strengths of Windows Server 2008 R2. It's a very good way to run multiple virtual servers on a single box, and one good way to optimize the use of server hardware.
In releasing Hyper-V drivers for Linux under GPLv2, Microsoft is making it much easier, more efficient, and more palatable from a legal standpoint for its customers to run Linux under Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2. That's not a deep, dark conspiracy; that's giving customers who run mixed Linux and Microsoft shops what they want. And giving your customers what they want is, in the long term, just good business.
