IBM buys CrossAccess to boost integration software

Big Blue will add acquired technology into its DB2 Information Integrator software

IBM Corp. has agreed to buy CrossAccess Corp., an integration software developer whose technology IBM plans to incorporate into its DB2 Information Integrator product.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The companies expect the deal to close later this month. CrossAccess, a privately held company based in Santa Clara, California, currently has about two dozen employees, most of whom will be offered positions with IBM, according to an IBM spokeswoman. CrossAccess president George Langan is expected to remain with the company through the transition, but will not permanently join IBM, she said.

IBM and CrossAccess were already working together as partners, and CrossAccess' eXadas technology is certified for use with IBM's DB2 Information Integrator. EXadas is intended to help companies link databases stored on mainframes with modern applications, allowing access to legacy information.

IBM will continue selling and supporting eXadas as it decides how best to combine the technology with its own data integration software, the company said. CrossAccess' software and personnel will become part of IBM's Data Management Software group, led by General Manager Janet Perna.
