Adobe Systems Inc. has bought the technology assets of Yellow Dragon Software Corp. to bolster XML (Extensible Markup Language) support in its document management offerings.
Privately held Yellow Dragon, of Vancouver, makes XML registry and messaging software to help companies take advantage of XML, an increasingly popular format for data exchange. Adobe plans to integrate the registry technology into its server software next year, but has yet to find a home for XML messenger, the company said Monday.
Yellow Dragon has specific expertise in ebXML, or electronic business XML, according to Adobe. This XML dialect is designed to help companies transact business across borders and languages. Both Yellow Dragon products are based on ebXML, Adobe said.
The newly-acquired XML registry will become part of Adobe's Intelligent Document Platform, the company's enterprise product line of which a new release is planned for next year, said Chris Ethier senior product manager at Adobe. The registry will allow users to index and track their XML components as well as other components, he said.
Adobe, just as many other software makers, has jumped on the XML train. The San Jose, California, vendor expects governments and businesses will require XML functionality over the next few years.
Terms of the deal with Yellow Dragon were not disclosed.
