Combining color printing with scan, copy, and sometimes fax, models start at around $100
How can HP, Canon, Epson, and Lexmark sell an inkjet printer/copier/scanner for $100 or $200? It's because they make bank on the ink, which can cost you as much as 15 cents per four-color page. Note that the thriftier printers--especially when paired with "high yield" cartridges--can knock that down to 9 or even 7 cents per color page, and as little as 2 or 3 cents per page when printing only black text. As always, faster print speed, higher print quality, and richer features--such as automatic duplexing, automatic document feeders, Wi-Fi connectivity, USB and media card slots, and even sci-fi stylings--generally come at extra cost.
