The Liberty Alliance on Friday made available a draft release of ID-WSF 2.0, its set of specifications for identity verification for Web services.
The Liberty Alliance specifications have been extended to support SAML 2.0, the second version of the Security Assertion Markup Language. The extension is meant to make it easier for developers adopting SAML 2.0 to implement ID-WSF (Identity Web Services Framework) specifications for managing identity-based Web services, the Liberty Alliance said in a statement.
This latest release of ID-WSF 2.0 is the first in a three-stage release plan that is scheduled to be completed by year's end. Future releases will include new features to allow developers to support custom Web services as well as those being developed by the Liberty Alliance services groups, the organization said.
The Liberty Alliance is a group of more than 150 companies and nonprofit and government organizations. The group aims to provide an open standard for federated network identity that supports current and future devices. The group's work at certain levels competes with the WS-* specifications that are backed by Microsoft and other vendors.
