Interwoven and Sun Microsystems expanded an existing partnership on Wednesday with an announcement that Sun will resell Interwoven's line of ECM products.
Under the deal, the two companies plan to co-sell Sun's infrastructure products, including Java System Portal, Sun Fire servers, Java Identity Management, and Sun StorEdge with Interwoven's ECM products. Interwoven's content-management products include LiveSite Content Publishing Server, TeamSite Content Management Server, TeamXML XML Server, and WorkSite MP for collaborative document management, among others.
Product lines from both Sun and Interwoven "share a great amount of product synergy," said Steve Pattison, vice president, strategic alliances at Interwoven.
Both companies have embraced an integrated Java and J2EE technology base and a commitment to SOAs, he said.
"Sun does everything that Interwoven doesn’t' do and vice versa," Pattison said.
The move will put Sun in position to sell as a single vendor a full and integrated infrastructure stack, Pattison said.
"A lot of companies are looking for a content management, portal, server, and storage stack," he said.
Furthermore, the agreement with Interwoven puts Sun in a better position to compete with competitors such as IBM, which offers content management as part of a larger infrastructure stack.
In addition, Interwoven inked an alliance in May with Microsoft to integrate Interwoven's ECM, e-mail and records-management products with Microsoft's Office and Windows technologies.
A key benefit of the alliance for both companies' enterprise customers is the capability for end-to-end management of content throughout its life-cycle, according to Interwoven.
