The Royal Family has joined micro-blogging site Twitter, according to Buckingham Palace officials. The Twitter.com/BritishMonarchy site went live today.

No member of the Royal Family will be personally 'tweeting', according to a Palace spokesperson. She said that the service will pass on information about Royal engagements.
"The intention is that it is a news service rather than a personal voice," she added.
The spokeswoman said that the Queen and the Prince of Wales had been informed about their account on Twitter, which currently features only a few links to stories on the official British Monarchy website.
Twitter is the latest social-networking phenomena - a wildly successful micro-blogging site on which users post status updates of 140 characters or less.
