Open Text unveils fruit of acquisitions

Livelink Web Content Management Server gains flexibility

Enterprise content management vendor Open Text this week launched its first product created from integrating technology from two acquisitions the company made earlier this year.

The Livelink Web Content Management Server integrates technology from German vendors Ixos Software and Gauss Interprise. The product provides out-of-the-box Web publishing, Java-based Web development, team collaboration, document and records management, and workflow, according to Open Text officials.

The new offering's primary benefit is flexibility to handle the wide-ranging requirements for Web content management, said Mark Portu, vice president of collaborative technology at Open Text.

"Everyone wants to do something a little different with Web content management. The Livelink [Web Content Management] server handles ability to address those needs: Out of the box, quick Web content management to very high end scalable, Java-based application development tools," he said.

In addition to flexibility, the two acquisitions boost Open Text's scalability and add support for multipurpose environments, Portu added.

Livelink Web Content management Server aims to boost content re-use across the enterprise, which can help reduce costs and cycle times, officials said. The offering lets content be shared between sites with uniform process workflows and site templates.

In the next few months Open Text plans to unveil more of its product roadmap, including an e-mail management and storage offering and an archiving system for the Livelink application.

In other Web content management news, Stellent last week introduced enhancements to its Stellent Site Studio application. Site Studio is designed to let users maintain centralized control over the architecture and presentation of Web sites, while giving site content management to individual business units or locations, according to Stellent officials.

New features in Site Studio include expanded content re-use capabilities, more finer grain publishing functions, and tools to simplify the deployment and maintenance of multi-language support.
