Of the four Microsoft Office alternatives I tested, three could reasonably be used as the personal productivity piece of an organization's software arsenal. Only Google Docs seems not quite ready to take on the full mantle of business use. Both OpenOffice.org and Zoho could serve ably for many organizations. Lotus Symphony is a mixed bag, providing capable word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations but lacking the database, communications, and collaboration capabilities that round out OpenOffice.org and Zoho.
