Life and work

Elizabeth over at the Career and Kids blog has an interesting short entry on balancing life, work, and relationships.

Her take is that it's not balance per se that's important, but rather how well the important parts of your life fit together:

I think when you talk about “balance”, it implies that even one small change can bring the whole thing crashing down, and, that every moment is a struggle to maintain. While there are days when it sure feels that way, if it’s like that all the time, then your work and life might not be a good fit.

This topic is important to me since I have two young kids, a wife who is also my best pal, a fairly demanding job, and an active writing life. I don't know that I've ever felt "balanced" but, for right now anyway, I've managed to make it all fit satisfactorily.
