HCL has been providing application development support services prior to the announcement this week that it will be expanding to five-year managed services agreement, including responsibility for end-user computing, help desk, and network management. The value of the agreement with the Plano, Texas-based company was not disclosed.

A small portion of the services will be delivered from HCL's previously announced $3.2 million facility in Cary, N.C., but the company will also utilize its offshore capabilities, such as the ability to remotely manage the networks from overseas, said Shami Khorana, the HCL America president.

Over the next three years, HCL plans to eventually expand its operations in North Carolina to 500 people.

HCL has several thousand workers in the U.S., including workers on visas, but most work at customer sites. The majority of people that HCL plans to have in North Carolina will be hired locally.

Dr Pepper Snapple Group officials were not immediately available for comment.
