The InfoWorld Green 15 awards FAQ

All you need to know about the Green 15 award. See if your question is answered below:

What is the InfoWorld Green 15 award for?

The InfoWorld Green 15 award honors the top 15 green IT projects of the year; that is, projects resulting in higher energy efficiency, reduced waste, and/or improved impact on the environment. Innovative IT products that drive sustainability will garner consideration, but internal green IT projects will be given more weighting.

Is there a fee to enter?

No.

To enter, do I need to do anything besides fill out and submit the online nomination form?

No. Frequently, however, InfoWorld highlights a subset of the 15 winners with extended profiles that are accompanied by a high-quality, 300-dpi headshot of the project lead. It might be prudent to create that picture soon, if it does not already exist.  Click here to submit an online nomination.

What sort of projects are most likely to earn an InfoWorld 15 award?

InfoWorld judges projects that were completed in full or in part during previous 12 months. Projects fully completed before January 2007 are not acceptable. We favor large-scale projects that stretch beyond off-the-shelf solutions, with multiple technologies used in innovative ways to serve clearly defined sustainability goals, including reducing waste, boosting energy efficiency, and improving one's impact on the environment.

May vendors nominate customer projects?

Yes. However, those who fill out the nomination form should have in-depth knowledge of the customer’s project, goals and surrounding IT issues. Block copies of vendor case studies or poorly written entries lacking in detail reduce the customer’s chances of winning.

Are professional service providers eligible to win for client projects?

Yes, provided the project was completely outsourced to the provider, from gathering requirements to testing and deployment. The client must explicitly agree that such was the case.

If the project lead from a nominated company is interviewed by an InfoWorld reporter, does that mean the nominated company has won?

No. Numerous finalists are interviewed before the final decision is made. Nothing is official until the November announcement date.

Are the winners published in hierarchical order from 1 to 15?

No. All 15 winners are of equal status and are listed alphabetically.

Can a nominated company win an InfoWorld Green 15 award two years in a row?

Yes. On rare occasions, organizations have won two years in a row for separate, major accomplishments -- but none has received the award twice for the same project.

Is there a physical award?

No. Winners do have access to a high-resolution InfoWorld Green 15 logo, which can be used for promotional opportunities.

Is there an award ceremony?

Not at this time.

Will I be notified if our company’s project doesn’t win?

No.

How do I find out why our company didn’t win?

The InfoWorld Green 15 is extremely competitive and we cannot provide individual explanations of why a certain nominated project did not receive an award. We hope this FAQ provides you with an understanding of the types of projects our judges favor -- and we strongly suggest you read case studies from previous years.
