The InfoWorld Bossie (Best of Open Source Software) awards FAQ
Is there a fee to enter the Bossie awards? No. To enter, do I need to do anything besides fill out and submit the online nomination form? No. What sorts of attributes are most likely to earn a Bossie award? First and foremost, InfoWorld looks at the actual open source software, applying the same criteria we use to evaluate commercial products and choose our Technology of the Year award winners (our annual picks for best products). We are looking for open source software that solves an important business or IT problem and meets the highest standards of discerning IT organizations. In general, our evaluation criteria include suitability to task, manageability, scalability, ease of use, performance, security, adherence to relevant open standards, and overall capability. What categories of open source software are eligible? Pretty much the whole gamut, for software aimed at the enterprise and business users. From CRM and ERP to OSes and middleware to networking, storage, and security software. Note that the number of awards depends on the quality of what we see, and so the categories that get honors may change each year based on where the best software offerings happen to be. Does the nominee need to be an open source provider? No. In fact, many of te nominees come from the InfoWorld Test Center editors and reviewers, based on open source software they have used and tested. In the Bossies article posted online, are the award winners listed in hierarchical order? No. They are listed by category. Can a nominee win a Bossie award two years in a row? Yes, though it is not common. Yes. It is shipped to the award winners within a month of publication of the Bossies article. Not at this time. How can I use the award, InfoWorld logo, and/or profile writeup in press releases, on Web pages, etc.? Click here for all Bossies marketing resources. Still have questions? For other questions pertaining to the Bossies, please contact Executive Editor Doug Dineley. Note: Confirmation that your entry has been received is not necessary if you have used the online nomination form without difficulty and clicked the Submit button without receiving an error message. If you experience technical difficulty, please contact InfoWorld Support.
