When Mike Sayers joined London-based Reuters more
than 15 years ago, the CTO role did not exist on the
company's organizational chart. Now, as the
company aggressively develops technologies to
deliver news and serve the financial services
industry, Sayers serves as the technical visionary.
As CTO, Sayers has overseen alliances with major
vendors. Most recently, Sayers spearheaded the
formation of an alliance with Hewlett-Packard, Intel,
and Red Hat to make Reuters Market Data System
available on Intel-based servers with Linux.
The port of the Reuters market-data distribution
systems enables trading rooms around the world to
consider Linux as a viable development option.
"It would be too easy to allow the current climate to lower or stop your
company's [spending] on innovation. However, I believe this is the exact time
when you should spend," Sayers Says.
