Corel buys into videoconferencing company to boost Linux

COREL BROADENED ITS portfolio of Linux-based products Tuesday buying a 10 percent stake in Simply.com, maker of customized videoconferencing solutions.
Under the terms of the deal, Corel will integrate Simply.com's videoconferencing software into its desktop distribution of Linux, giving users worldwide an easier way to communicate and collaborate face to face.
"We view Simply.com as the newest member of Corel's affiliate family, bringing expertise in voice, video, and data products and services," said Dr. Mike Cowpland, president and CEO at Corel. "We are aligning ourselves with as many key Linux players and initiatives surrounding Linux on the desktop as we can," he said.
Simply.com has primarily focused on solutions for the government, education, health care, aerospace, and financial markets.
