BitWise Designs is seeking to patent its Internet Standard Time technology, which company officials hope will become a standard for Internet timekeeping, Mike Wolf, a BitWise spokesman, said in a telephone interview.

The technology uses BitWise's AuthentiDate application, which includes a secure clock to determine times and dates for all files saved and online transactions for computers and networks connected to the Internet, BitWise Designs said in a statement.

The company is seeking partnerships to promote mass marketing for the technology, which they hope will be used to set a universal standard time for the Internet, Wolf said. The product will be available for shipping in six months. Pricing was not immediately available.

The explosion of Internet-based commerce is creating a need to precisely authenticate the time of transactions, Wolf said.

BitWise Inc., in Schenectady, N.Y., is at www.docstar.com.
