The update to SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for IBM eServer iSeries and pSeries systems includes expanded hardware support, new drivers, security fixes and patches, the company said in a statement Thursday.

The hardware support will allow IBM's most recent pSeries servers to be partitioned into logical systems so that users can consolidate multiple applications on a single high-performance server, the company said.

An ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver for Linux allows users to access DB2 Universal Database for OS/400 from Linux applications, SuSE said.

The updates can be obtained through the SuSE Web site or on CD. New customers who purchase the 12-month system maintenance package along with the SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for iSeries and pSeries will be given the CD with all of the updates, the company said.

Users of the IBM/SuSE Linux servers include Deutsche Bank AG, Alcatel SA and the German Federal Ministry of the Interior in Berlin, which last month announced a partnership with Armonk, New York, IBM to supply the open-source Linux operating system to federal, state and local governments.
