KB 2965295, KB 2965270 freeze Calendar and syncing, cause lockouts

February patches KB 2956128 and KB 2956203 also come into question -- again

It's been quite a month for botched patches. I'm seeing more and more reports of problems with two new patches: KB 2965295, the "April 14, 2015 update for Outlook 2010" and KB 2965270, descriptively entitled "April 14, 2015 update for Outlook 2013." I'm also hearing new rumblings about our old friends KB 2956128 -- the February Outlook 2010 update rollup (with problems that Microsoft promised to fix "by the 3rd week of April") -- and its successor of sorts, KB 2956203, the "March 10, 2015 update for Outlook 2010."

Got your scorecard handy?

Yesterday, Zarafa employee Sufi showed the results of her research into shared Calendar problems with the new patches, KB 2965295 and KB 2965270. She found problems with both Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 click-to-run:

Windows 7 with Outlook 2010 - 14.0.7147.5001

7.1.12-48726 -- calendar could not be updated
7.2.0-48554 -- calendar could not be updated

Windows 7 with Outlook 2013 click-to-run - 15.0.4711.1000

7.1.12-48726 -- shows only free busy info
7.2.0-48554 -- shows only free busy info

Windows 8.1 with Outlook 2013 click-to-run - 15.0.4711.1000

7.1.12-48726 -- calendar could not be updated
7.2.0-48554 -- calendar could not be updated

Windows 8.1 with Outlook 2010 - 14.0.7147.5001

7.1.12-48726 -- calendar could not be updated
7.2.0-48554 -- calendar could not be updated

Poster Cooper1979 confirms the Win 8.1/Outlook 2010 problems, but cannot replicate the Win 8.1/Office 2013 click-to-run combination.

Poster Jerry, on the MSOffice Forums, has hit Office 365 Exchange lockups with the two older and one new patch:

There has been 3 Microsoft Outlook 2010 updates that cause it to lockup when syncing with Office365 Exchange. We have 6 or 7 users that are using Outlook 2010 to connect to their Office365 Exchange account. Below are the 3 updates that I have had to uninstall and hide because they cause Outlook 2010 to "Stop Responding" when syncing with Office365 Exchange.

KB2956128
KB2956203
KB2965295

It looks like Microsoft just keeps re-releasing this update with a different Id. This is a problem because I have to keep fixing this by uninstalling and hiding the updates. Can someone at Microsoft look into this problem????????

I've also heard from analyst JB who can confirm Office Communication Software 2007 R2 crashes with the old KB 2956128 and KB 2956203. He says "I am getting some preliminary indications that KB2965295 (released on Tuesday) is doing the same thing, but my testing is somewhat inconclusive (i.e. -- does not do this in all cases)."

If you have any additional observations, please hit me in the comments.
