Knowledge is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s one of the reasons I wrote the book "Conversational Geek (in 7 Days!)." I saw a gap in the knowledge of both young and old concerning technology we use every day and the many key figures in the invention and proliferation of that technology.
Ask yourself: Who is Steve Wozniak? Or Vint Cerf? How do you turn the decimal number 42 into binary code? Heck, why did I choose the number 42 for that last question?
Such details make up the fabric of the geek universe. Shows like the "Big Bang Theory" are loved universally, but only geeks understand all the jokes. That doesn’t have to be the case. With my easy-to-read overview of geekdom, anyone can get up to speed fast and become conversational in geek. InfoWorld readers likely are conversational in geek, but their friends and family members may not be.
Chapters cover desktop computers, networks, the Internet, operating systems, mobile phones and tablets, applications, social networking, and geek entertainment. I have included cartoons at the beginning of each chapter, various notes, and page numbering in decimal, binary and, of course, Klingon. You, your family, and your friends will love it.
It’s all for the low, low price of free for a brief time. It's my gift to you, my readers. Why? I honestly love this book. I’ve written more than a dozen technical books through the years that are sold internationally, and that's been wonderful.
But this one is different: I simply want more people to know the geek world and gain an appreciation for the citizens who've helped us get to the point where we can email people on the other side of the globe and it takes only a second for them to receive it. We live in a world where we have instant access to knowledge and entertainment, and we can work and play, all on a device thinner than a pencil. We shouldn’t forget the pioneers of these inventions, and our young people should know their names in much the same way they know the names of historical genius in music, art, and literature.
Thus, "Conversational Geek" is my gift to you and yours. Use the link below to download it as a PDF file. Enjoy!
