Use a fast way to disable notifications in OS X Mavericks

Here's how you can quickly disable notifications in OS X Mavericks.

1. Press and hold the Alt key.

2. Click on the notification center icon at the far right of the menu bar at the top of your screen.

The icon will turn grey instead of black when you've turned off notifications.
