Install MATE 1.6 in Ubuntu 13.10

Add the MATE 1.6 desktop to your Ubuntu 13.10 system

Here's how you can install MATE 1.6 in Ubuntu 13.10. This tip should also work for Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10 and 12.04.

1. Open a terminal window.

2. Type in the following commands then hit Enter after each.

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://repo.mate-desktop.org/ubuntu (lsb_release -sc) main"

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install mate-archive-keyring

sudo apt-get update

3. You now have the choice to install the MATE base packages only or the full MATE system.

For the base packages only, use this command:

sudo apt-get install mate-core

For the full MATE system, use this command:

sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment
